About melissa valencia

Melissa graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from UC Santa Cruz in 2012. After completing her degree, Melissa volunteered her time at UC San Diego Regional Burn Center for approximately two years. Melissa worked with hospitalized children and their families in helping normalize the environment, providing burn safety education, and promoting a strong support system.

In 2015, Melissa completed her Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from California Baptists University. While enrolled in school, Melissa began her student training with TIDES, working with community clients and school aged children. In 2016 she returned to TIDES as a registered intern.

Using a multifaceted approach, Melissa acquires information from client's emotional, behavioral, physiological and environmental sectors to develop an individual tailored approach that will help guide children and their families during stressful times. Collaborating with parents, school officials and other therapeutic staff is a goal Melissa strives to reachin order to develop a successful treatment that will benefit client and family.

Family dynamics and collaboration from the start of therapy is a belief Melissa holds, in order to ensure a successful therapeutic process. Focusing on the family, the child and family will learn both,positive and healthy coping skills when experiencing stressful milestones and/or traumatic events together.
