63 Y Kids Receive A Brand New Bike

On Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Hotel Del Coronado, Union Bank employees joined staff from Life Cycles, a philanthropic team building program from Odyssey Teams, Inc. to give bicycles to 63 deserving children from the YMCA of San Diego County’s three lowest income communities.

As part of Union Bank’s staff team building event, employees built 63 brand new bikes and presented them as surprise gifts to YMCA boys and girls ages 6 – 12 from the Copley, Jackie Robinson and Border View Family YMCAs.

Many of the children, like an 11 year-old girl from the Border View Family YMCA who has recently been dealing with having her mother in the hospital diagnosed with cancer, were selected to receive a new bike because they never have had a bike.

Each child was introduced to the Union Bank employees who built their bike. In addition to a custom fit bike, each child also received a helmet and lock. All bikes are inspected by bike-safety technicians.
