DASH - Frequently asked questions

March 6, 2017 – DASH applications will become available electronically, at your child’s school office, on Peach Jar, and at these YMCA Facilities:

SOUTH BAY FAMILY YMCA: 1201 Paseo Magda Chula Vista
EASTLAKE YMCA: 2311 Boswell Rd. Suite 7 Chula Vista

Please Know:
o The lottery process is random, not first come – first serve.

o Applications received before or after these dates will not be eligible for the lottery. Revised wait lists will be available May 5.

Applications will be accepted at our two locations listed below:

Hours: M-F 5:00AM-10:00PM, SAT 6:30AM-7:00PM, SUN 7:00AM- 12:30PM

Applications may also be emailed to [email protected] only during the March 6-17 window. Applications must be complete, signed, have a minimum of 2 emergency contacts, and include a valid email address to receive a lottery number.

Applications that are illegible will not be accepted. Once your application is received a verification email will be sent, followed by a receipt confirming your lottery number within two business days. Neither the confirmation email nor receipt with your lottery number guarantees enrollment. Enrollment will be posted at schools April 5.

Please do not turn in your applications to the school site or DASH staff.

DASH applications received after the lottery process will be added to the waiting list in the order received. During this time applications will ONLY BE ACCEPTED at the SOUTH BAY FAMILY YMCA 1201 Paseo Magda, Chula Vista CA 91910.

New This Year:
One Time Registration Fee: If your student is accepted into DASH a $50.00 registration fee per student is required by April 28th. Scholarships available through the South Bay Family YMCA.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Attendance Policy: DASH students must attend the program a minimum of twice a week, or
eight times in a month. Families not meeting attendance requirements will be warned by the 15th of each month. If low attendance continues the student will be dropped the following month.
(Considerations will be made for illness, bereavement, school absence, or unique circumstances.)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q. Why a lottery?
To ensure every family currently attending a DASH school has an equal chance of getting accepted into DASH, Currently enrolled DASH students must reapply every year.

Q. Who is eligible to enter the lottery?
Students in grades 1st-6th who are enrolled in the 2017-2018 school year. Kindergarteners will not be accepted.

Q. Can I enter more than once?
NO. Each family will receive only one lottery number at a given school. Names and addresses will be cross-checked. Any attempt to submit more than one application at the same school or across multiple schools will result in immediate disqualification. If you are uncertain which school your child will attend, please submit an application for your home school.

Q. How will the applications be selected?
A computer program will randomly chose the total number of lottery participants distributed to each school. YMCA staff will pull valid applications according to the computer-generated list of numbers until all of the spaces in the program are filled, and will continue in this method for creating the waiting list.

Q. How many students will be accepted into DASH?
Program staffing allows for the daily attendance of approximately 50 students per day. Since we do not expect every child to attend every day, we will automatically enroll the first 75 students from the list. Children from the same family will not be split up as long as their applications are submitted together. If you have students at multiple schools, please contact us prior to April 3, 2017 at 619-421-9622.

Q. How will I know if my children are accepted?
All accepted students, as well as the waiting list will be available on Wednesday, April 5, 2017. Lists will be posted in the school office. Only students identified as ENROLLED will be required to submit payment.

Q. What if my family is on the wait list?
YMCA DASH staff will notify wait list families if and when they can start using the program. This will be determined by the usage patterns at schools, which change throughout the year. Though we strive to maintain the maximum daily attendance, there are no guarantees that a student on the wait list will be enrolled. If your application number is not announced as ENROLLED, you will need to wait until a YMCA DASH staff contacts you before sending your child (ren) to DASH.

Q. What if I miss the lottery enrollment?
If you missed the lottery enrollment, you will still be able to add your name to the existing waiting list. Applications may be submitted to the SOUTH BAY FAMILY YMCA at 1201 Paseo Magda, Chula Vista, CA 91910 and will be added to the end of the waiting list as they are received.

Q. What if I am in another YMCA program?
To be eligible for DASH you must be current with all YMCA payments. If DASH conflicts with your enrollment in another YMCA program but you wish to attend DASH, you must cancel your program enrollment and give/honor any appropriate cancellation notices.

Q. How does space become available in DASH during the school year?
We appreciate when families who no longer need DASH inform us so that we can enroll other students. Additionally, students may be dis-enrolled for any of the following reasons: poor attendance, late pickups, unpaid registration fees, and behavior challenges.

Q. Am I able to turn in applications for children other than those living in my household?
No, you may only turn in applications for children living in your household. We want to ensure all families directly receive a lottery number.

Q. How do I go about enrolling my children if they attend different school?
When submitting your application in person, please inform our staff team that your children attend different schools. We will need to take note of that to ensure you receive one lottery number. Please inform our staff team which school is considered your home school. If your child is chosen at your home school through the lottery your other child gets in at their other school.

Q. Why is there a one-time administration fee?
Registration fees are a family’s commitment to the program. They also help with the financial sustainability for the DASH program so that students may enjoy a safe, high quality program. Scholarships through the YMCA are available upon application. Please know they are nonrefundable.
