Why Give to the YMCA?
Since 1988 the Rancho Family YMCA has been serving the communities of Rancho Penasquitos, 4S Ranch, Scripps Ranch, Rancho Bernardo and Poway. Our goal each year is to serve all families, adults and children regardless of their ability to pay.
Due to the generosity of community minded people, companies, organizations and foundations we are proud to be able to say that we served everyone interested in a Y experience once again last year, even if they could not afford the fees. This was possible last year because of the passion and dedication of hundreds of volunteers that raised over $260,000 to help us keep our promise to our community.
This year a volunteer force of 92 people, in conjunction with staff, will raise these funds and we are all proud to say that 94 cents of every dollar goes directly to supporting people in need. We continue to receive top marks from watchdog groups like Charity Navigator who once again gave us their highest rating for fundraising effectiveness.
This year our goal will be to raise $250,000 to support children and families grow and develop at the YMCA. We will be focusing on the following three areas:
- Direct Scholarships for memberships including adults, families and youth. Support to military families by waiving joiner fees and free youth memberships for all children eligible for program scholarships.
- It is important that all children, regardless of ability are able to enjoy programs at the YMCA. We believe inclusion is important and all people should be able to participate in some capacity in Y programs. To accommodate some children requires that an inclusion aid be present to ensure the child’s success. The Y provides aids at no cost to families with children with special needs.
- Children should have an opportunity to participate in a variety of activities and experiences to help develop them to become successful, contributing members of their community. The Y works hard to provide opportunities for children and teens that show the value of volunteering, demonstrate the importance of civic engagement, and of course are fun. We continue to be able to offer great programs to all children regardless of their families ability to pay because of the generosity of so many.
“I am a single mom of seven & ten year old boys. I have been fighting a very rare and aggressive life-threatening disease for several years now. By coming to the Y and doing my physical therapy in the pool on a regular basis, I have been able to keep the use of my muscles which my immune system is actively trying to destroy.
My boys either join me in the pool for some fun family time together, or are well-supervised in the fabulous Child Watch program. If it is a school day, they often get most, if not all, of their homework done. They've also developed many friendships with their peers who also attend Child Watch on a regular basis.
Truly, it was way more than just a financial boost you gave our family with a scholarship. You gave us the adoption into one of the most caring and loving families- the Rancho Family YMCA.
With great appreciation."
