AWAY Program

"Always Welcome at YMCAs"

The AWAY program is a membeship philosophy that says: When a peron enrolls in a YMCA, he or she becomes a member of a nationwide association of people that helps build strong kids, strong families and strong communities; and, therefore, when away from home, on business or vacation, each member will be warmly welcomed by all other participating YMCAs in the United States.

Because of the autonomous nature of the YMCA, local agreements between YMCAs and local YMCA policies on use of equipment, facilities, services and programs are protected. To handle this, each participating YMCA in the AWAY program develops with staff and volunteer involvement, their own local restrictions. Many participating YMCAs have no restrictions on visiting YMCA members. Some restrictions may include "visits by members of YMCAs within 50 miles are limited to three per month," "visiting members may only use the facility at certain hours," "visiting members will be charged half the guest fee," or "visiting Y members are restricted to a limited number of visits each year."

We strongly suggest visiting YMCA members who are planning to visit another YMCA call the YMCA for policies regarding their visit. The YMCA of the USA has a "Find Your Y" tool on its website at www.ymca.net
