Rancho History and Values

about us

The Rancho Family YMCA serves more than 15,000 youth and families in the communities of 4S Ranch, Carmel Mountain Ranch, Del Sur, Mira Mesa, Poway, Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Peñasquitos, Sabre Springs, Santaluz, Scripps Ranch, and Torrey Highlands.

The Rancho Family YMCA began as a result of conclusions made from the second strategic planning process conducted by the YMCA of San Diego County. Based on the conclusions of that survey, it became apparent that there was a great need for a YMCA to be built in the North County, along the I-15 corridor, somewhere between Scripps Ranch and Escondido.

The Rancho Family YMCA began operating as a store-front location providing backyard swim lessons and day camps to the surrounding community.

In January, the new Rancho Family YMCA had it’s grand opening for the building now known as the Program Center.

The Rancho Family YMCA opened a main facility with a full workout center known as the Wellness Center, an interactive outside pool, main pool, a multi-purpose room commonly used for group fitness classes, Family Fun Night, and Birthday Parties.

On June 16 the Rancho Family YMCA held groundbreaking ceremonies at the 4-acre site on Scripps Poway Parkway, which is now home to youth sports classes and leagues, summer camp home base, family walking clubs, and special events as interim use until construction begins on an additional facility.

The Rancho Family YMCA provides programs for young and old alike, such as year round swim lessons and swim team, gymnastics up to competitive levels, youth sports and sports leagues, martial arts, summer and school year day camps, and Adventure Guides.
