Why the Y?
Mission Valley YMCA has been offering outstanding summer camps for more than 30 years. We believe that every young person is a unique individual with his/her own rate of development. Our goal is to introduce children and teens to as many new experiences as possible and help each child feel confident and secure in a fun, safe camp environment. YMCA day camps challenge children to grow in imagination, creativity, self-directed initiative, and leadership.
We are dedicated to changing the lives of our campers by creating friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. All of our YMCA day camps have been voluntarily accredited by the American Camp Association. Accreditation identifies those programs which offer a solid foundation of health, safety and program quality. Our day camps exceed the highest standards in the camp industry — solid proof of our accountability, credibility and commitment to providing the best summer experience. For more information regarding ACA standards please visit www.acacamps.org.
Give the Gift of Camp to Another Child! All children deserve the opportunity to have a camp experience. If you wish to make a contribution to the YMCA's 2017 Annual Campaign, you may do so by sending your donation to the YMCA, specifically ear-marked for campership for camp.

What's the difference between a traditional and specialty camp? What's an LIT?
Revamped and ready to go, these ultra-spirited, fun-filled camps have a new design this year, full of BIG themes, BIG ideas and BIG FUN! Each week will have a different theme that will guide our activities and trips for the week. Set in the YMCA style of different crazy activities each and every day, your camper will be traveling on special adventures throughout San Diego: visiting theme parks, taking swim lessons, going to local parks and beaches, or simply having a great time at one of our extraordinary facilities. Go BIG, go traditional!
Does your child have a specific interest or hobby? Have a bright and talented camper? Does your child need to burn off some excess energy? Or are you looking for something out of the ordinary and exciting? Browse the spectacularly amazing specialty section for something that engages the creative oomph with the traditional spirit! We have everything from sports camps on skills and techniques, to Ceramics Camp focusing on creativity and confidence, and everything in between! Read on for some of our more mainstream popular camps, as well as our astounding new offerings. These phenomenal camps combine the traditional fun of YMCA day camps with the more specialized skills by providers or YMCA experts.
We’ve expanded teen camp options to include specialty camps just for teens, in addition to our popular leadership training program.
- L.I.T. — Beginner Trainee
This L.I.T. program is for all teens ages 13-17 who have never participated in our L.I.T. programs before or did not participate in our 2016 summer program.
- L.I.T. — Returner Review
This L.I.T. program is for all teens ages 13-17 who have previously participated in our 2016 summer program.
L.I.T. Program Overview
After your teen completes one of the above L.I.T. programs (Beginner Trainee or Returner Review), he or she will become an official L.I.T., and is eligible to enroll into L.I.T. Placement during the remainder of the camp season. L.I.T.s will be assigned to assist our talented day camp staff with the daily operation of a particular camp.
This program provides an excellent opportunity for teens to learn hands-on job experience and responsibilities, while still under the supervision of our camp staff team. Additionally, all hours completed within L.I.T. Placement can be recorded as community service hours!
PLEASE NOTE: All training is based out of Mission
Valley YMCA, but placement is dependent on the
location specified during registration. When signing up for placements, make sure to ask specifically for Mission Valley or Toby Wells YMCA locations.
