Safety around water

Safety Around Water

May is National Drowning Prevention Month

Teaching children how to be safe around water is not a luxury; it is a necessity. For first-time registrants with little to no experience in the water, Safety Around Water teaches essential water safety skills to children ages 3 to 12. This special Y of the USA-funded program is FREE and available for a limited time only.

EACH SESSION INCLUDES:
  • • Exercises to help kids adjust to being in water
  • • Instruction in “Jump, Push, Turn, Grab” and “Swim, Float, Swim,” — two skill sets kids can use if they unexpectedly find themselves in the water
  • • Specific safety topics, like what to do if you see someone in the water who needs help
  • • Fun activities that reinforce skills
Our 30-minute classes meet 12:45 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. every Saturday from May 6 to May 27.

Note: Children must be beginning-level swimmers.
