Responsible for assisting in the overall management and supervision of the children between the ages of 5 to 12 at the site. Reports to the Site Supervisor and to the Program Director.
Qualifications
Professional preparation as a teacher of young children, especially in early childhood education of development. Other acceptable fields include recreation, physical education, program administration and elementary teaching credential units. Must be sensitive and mature.
Criminal record clearance by being fingerprinted prior to reporting
for work and signing a statement regarding criminal convictions.
Clearing a TB test within seven days after employment.
CPR, First Aid and Child Abuse Prevention Certification attained within 30 days of employment.
Meets the requirement of 48 College Units or a copy of completion of the CAPE Test.
Health and Safety Certification attained within 90 days of employment.
Physical ability to lead and participate in active sports and games with children.
Ability to supervise a variety of children including children with challenging behavior.
Participate in implementing curriculum activities for the children at the site.
General housekeeping responsibilities.
Ability to relate well to both children and adults in a culturally diverse community.
Ability to provide leadership and stability for program continuity.
Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
Major Functions
Plan, supervise and implement the program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA.
Assist in the supervision of all site staff.
Effectively communicate with parents, staff, children and school administration.
Closely coordinate with school personnel in regards to the children and special events.
Accurately document attendance, absentees and emergency information on each child.
Follow all emergency procedures appropriate to the site and in conformity with the procedures adopted by the emergency service authorities to ensure the safety of all children.
Maintain up-to-date records on all children enrolled.
General house keeping duties necessary to maintain cleanliness and safety at the site.
Provide an environment at the site that is orderly and educational.
Plan and coordinate activities that fit the children's needs and interests.
Provide needed direction and guidance to staff and program.
Work with the site supervisor and staff to produce a monthly calendar of activities.
Preserve the quality of supplies, equipment and materials.
