Position School Age Teacher (Licensed)

Basic Assignments Under the supervision of the Site Supervisor, the School Age Teacher is responsible for the overall supervision of children, program planning and implementation, and assisting with overall program management.
Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older and a high school graduate.
  • 12 units in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field, or have 6 units completed and enrolled in 6 more units. AA or BA in Early Childhood Education is highly desirable.
  • Must have sincere interest in working with children 5-12 years of age.
  • Must have a warm and friendly personality and the sensitivity to meet the needs of a diverse population.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act in an emergency situation.
  • Must have the ability to lead sports, games and curriculum activities, monitor behavior and general house keeping responsibilities.
  • Ability to relate to children and adults in a professional manner.
  • Criminal record clearance by being fingerprinted prior to reporting to work and signing a statement regarding criminal convictions.
  • A physical exam and negative TB test results within 7 days of hire.
Major Functions
  • Assist to plan, supervise and implement the program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA.
  • Supervise participants, ensuring their guidance and safety.
  • Comply with all licensing regulations and YMCA policies and procedures at all times
  • Communicate in a positive and effective manner with all participants, school officials, parents, community members and co-workers.
  • General housekeeping to include, but not limited to; cleaning bathrooms, wiping down table, sweeping/mopping/vacuuming floors, taking out trash and locking all doors.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor at all times to ensure the YMCA image and mission statement are upheld.
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
