Basic Assignments
Under the direct supervision of the Program Director/Coordinator, responsible for the management, supervision, implementation and contractual/regulatory compliance of Before and After School Program in an elementary school setting. This position is for an ASES Funded Program.
Qualifications
Must be 21 years of age and a high school graduate.
Must meet the minimum qualifications for Classroom Assistant in the district in which assigned school operates; AA or BA is highly desirable, passing score on district’s Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam (CAPE Test) acceptable.
Minimum of 4 years working with youth in after school, child care, or day camp setting highly desirable.
Must be highly dependable. Must have sincere interest in working with children 5-12 years of age.
Must have a warm and friendly personality, while having sensitivity to meet the needs of a diverse population.
Must have willingness to fulfill the job responsibilities in accordance to the program and branch goals.
Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act in emergency situations.
Ability to lead sports, games and curriculum activities, monitor behavior and general house keeping responsibilities.
Ability to relate to children and adults in a professional manner. Ability to provide leadership and stability to the program.
Criminal record clearance by being fingerprinted prior to reporting to work and signing a statement regarding criminal convictions.
Maintain loyalty and professionalism at all times. Negative TB test results prior to working with participants.
Training Requirements:
Completion of Child Abuse Prevention on line training prior to working with participants.
Health/Safety Training, CPR, and First Aid within 30 days of hire. AED Certification recommended.
Attend branch new hire orientation and YMCA of San Diego Cultural Diversity Training within 60 days of hire.
Ability to attend a minimum of 24 hours of training per school year.
Youth bus driver certification is highly desirable.
Major Functions
Plan, supervise and implement the daily program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA.
Plan and implement program monthly goals and objectives, calendar of activities, daily schedule, curriculum, snack and monthly newsletter.
Ensure the provision of age appropriate activities and events for participants, coordinating activities to meet the developmental needs and interests of all children.
Ensure constant and consistent supervision of all children, ensuring their guidance and safety.
Ensure that program and staff consistently comply with all contract requirements and YMCA policies and procedures.
Establish and post emergency procedures appropriate to the site and in conformity with the procedures adopted by the school site and YMCA Risk Management Authorities to ensure the safety of the children and staff.
Accurately document all incidents/accidents and ensure proper communication to all parties as appropriate.
Coordinate daily program operations including daily set up, youth supervision, program planning and site maintenance-cleaning, sweeping, waste disposal, securing facilities and equipment.
Maintain complete and up-to-date records on all children enrolled. Submit all necessary and related reports by assigned deadline.
Accurately document attendance, absentees and emergency information on each child. Ensure accuracy and consistency of sign in/out sheets.
Maintain current enrollment list and waiting list, as appropriate for site; recruit and enroll participants as space allows.
Assist to effectively manage monthly site budget so as maximize monthly revenue and ensure that expenses do not exceed allotted funding.
Plan for and request materials and supplies for the program; ensure proper security, maintenance and use of program equipment, materials and supplies.
Provide needed direction and guidance to site staff on a regular basis. Conduct regularly scheduled staff meetings for all site staff.
Assist to establish and monitor staff schedules and closely coordinate and monitor site staff's arrival, departure and absences.
Assist with evaluating employed personnel semi-annually as to performance and responsibilities and recommend salary adjustments.
Attend Site Supervisor meetings and relate information to site staff.
Communicate in a positive and effective manner with all participants, school officials, parents, community members and co-workers.
Develop and maintain positive communication with school personnel; ensure positive relationship between the school and the YMCA; participate in school activities and functions as required.
Communicate with parents regarding their child(ren's) participation, activities, progress and other program related matters on a regular basis.
Recruit parents for Parent Advisory Committee and hold meetings on a regular basis.
Hold a minimum of 2 family nights per school year. Wear YMCA staff shirt and name tag during work hours.
Maintain professional demeanor at all times to ensure the YMCA image and mission statement are upheld.
Attend all other meetings and trainings that may be required in addition to those specifically mentioned herein.
Other duties as assigned.
