Responsible for protecting the safety of members and participants in and around aquatic facilities. Prevent potential accidents by ensuring adherence to policies and program standards of the YMCA of San Diego County.
Qualifications
Minimum 16 years of age
Current YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (must crossover to YMCA certifications within 6 months)
Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification
Current First Aid certification
Must pass written and practical skills exam prior to duty
Must have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents, and the physical ability to act swiftly in emergency situations
Major Functions
Practice preventive lifeguard techniques at all times to include but not limited to the following:
Positioned to have full view of the area of responsibility above and below water surface
Scan area of responsibility every 5 to 10 seconds
Remain within 4 feet of the pool at all times
Perform appropriate rescues
Attend at least 2 hours monthly in-service training as scheduled
Participate in scheduled and random lifeguard drills
Be familiar with and abide by YMCA of San Diego County Aquatic Policy and Program Standards at all times.
Will NOT perform any duties that require the handling of chemicals or contact with blood borne pathogens
Perform maintenance duties as scheduled when not lifeguarding.
Educate participants regarding rules and regulations of pool area.
Promote the mission, goals and objectives of the YMCA at all times.
