Brief History of the

Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA

The North Coast Family YMCA was started in 1958 by a group of dedicated volunteers to create a community center for the growing area. In 1968 the Paul Ecke Family donated 5-acres and the YMCA was renamed the Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA. In 1980 and again in 1985, the Paul Ecke Family donated adjacent acres and completed the YMCA’s contiguous 20-acre site.

Brief History of the

Paul Ecke, Jr. Poinsettia Ball

The Paul Ecke, Jr. Poinsettia Ball will celebrate 26 years of supporting the Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA on December 10, 2016. After supporting the gymnasium building project in the 1990s, the event moved from the Ecke Ranch barn into the YMCA’s Gary E. Biszantz Family Gymnasium until 2014. The reason for the season and this philanthropic tradition have remained the same since the inception. The Paul Ecke, Jr. Poinsettia Ball supports Scholarships and Community Partnership Programs and has raised a total of over $1.8 million for improving the lives of children, families and seniors in the North County Coastal community since it was started.

In 2015, the event’s silver anniversary was celebrated at the beautiful Park Hyatt Aviara Resort. This year we are coming back home for the holidays where we will once again transform our gymnasium into a holiday wonderland.
