A Tribute to Allen Wolowsky
"Camp is Camp, and it's all Good"
On Saturday evening, August 18, 2007, tragedy shook the heart of our community. Allan Wolowsky was traveling back "up the mountain" when he was struck and killed by a drunk driver.
In addition to his family and friends, countless camp alumni were shocked and deeply saddened. Emails, phone calls, cards and regrets have been received from around the world.
In his 14 years with the YMCA Maintenance Department, Allan poured himself into his work. Everywhere you turn at Marston or Raintree, you see the results of his commitment. Whether it's trekking up stairs or trails, shooting an arrow at the Archery Range, singing at Old Oaks Amphitheatre, playing on the athletic fields, plinking at the Marksmanship Range, or countless other special places, Allan's hands helped make them all happen.
But Allan meant much more than his impact on buildings and grounds. Allan was an incredibly warm person, always an upbeat attitude, a smile on his face, singing country songs while he worked and fostering friendships with so many. Through the years and challenges that camp brings, many, many staff at camp came to love this wonderful man.
He will be missed.
Thank you, Allan, for your spirit, your tireless work, but mostly for the friendship and love that you brought to us.
Allan's wife Sandy Lee has requested, in lieu of flowers, that contributions be made to Allan's Memorial Fund. Gifts can be sent to YMCA, P.O. Box 2440, Julian, CA 92036.
