iCARE - Putting the GREEN in Responsibility
When you shop: Paper, Plastic or…Cloth!?
Instead of using “paper or plastic” at stores, try bringing your own re-usable cloth bag. They hold more, are more comfortable to carry, and don’t break, even if the milk leaks! Many stores will even give you a 5-25 cent credit for bringing your own bag…just ask.
Make a Real Difference:
- Plastic bags and film wrappings account for over 40% of our plastic garbage (over 9.5 billion pounds/year) and a negligible amount is recycled. Most of it will be sitting in landfills for centuries…...
- Paper is not necessarily better than plastic since 12 million tress are cut down to make the 10 billion paper bags we use annually.
- In the US we use at least 100 billion plastic shopping bags each year which require 12 million barrels of oil to make.
- If you are only buying one or two items at a store, tell them you don’t need a bag at all! Reducing our use of shopping bags will reduce the cost for stores, consumers, and the environment!
