THE Y FOR
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
We focus our work in three key areas, because nurturing the potential of kids, helping people live healthier, and supporting our neighbors are fundamental to strengthening communities.

Campers at the Y learn how to be responsible and resourceful, work in groups, solve problems and make decisions that will help them grow as individuals. As a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y works to help children and teens discover their full potential by providing opportunities to learn, grow and thrive. To ensure that every child and teen has the chance to go to camp, all Day and Overnight Camps at the Y offer financial assistance to those in need.
Accredited by the American Camping Association, all YMCA Day and Resident Camps provide exciting and educational camp programming for children and teens, and their parents, including: Outdoors adventures, a chance to develop confidence and independence by taking on new responsibilities and challenges, form new friendships and create unforgettable experiences that will give each camper memories (and campfire stories) that will last a lifetime.
The YMCA has three fantastic resident camping properties in San Diego County, one in the mountains for summer adventures, one exclusively for horseback riding near Julian and one on the Pacific Ocean. Kids can enjoy the camp experience year round at YMCA Camp Marston, YMCA Raintree Ranch and YMCA Camp Surf.
Traditional camps offer outdoor fun and quality supervision. Activities develop social skills, team work, self-esteem and an appreciation for the environment. Many camps include a weekly field trip, recreational swim, indoor and outdoor games, nature activities, arts and crafts and special events.
- Overnight Camp: Ys offer overnight camps that run from a few days to a few weeks in scenic outdoor areas right near everyone’s community. Camp programs offer a wide variety of outdoor adventures led by trained and experienced leaders that will surely offer school age boys and girls to teenagers an unforgettable experience. Expect new and fun activities that will not only build skills but add great new friends and character values for life.
- Day Camp: Day camp can offer almost all of the benefits of traditional camp — new experiences, skill building, a sense of community and lasting friendships — in rural and urban settings while returning home each afternoon. Ys across the county offer day camps for elementary age boys and girls and many may have offerings for pre-schoolers or teens.
- Specialty Camps: Camping is for everyone, and the Y offers specialty camps that focus on particular programming like teen adventure, music, sports specialties and farm/ranch experiences and for campers with special needs. Youth with developmental disabilities, physical and mental health challenges or other impairments that may require special attention or benefit from like-situated campers have some options through the Y.
