Campers at the Y learn how to be responsible and resourceful, work in groups, solve problems and make decisions that will help them grow as individuals. As a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y works to help children and teens discover their full potential by providing opportunities to learn, grow and thrive. Meet Hayley

At first glance, Hayley doesn’t appear any different than other Y Camp Counselors – her long pig-tails tied up with rubber bands, well-worn blue jeans covered in dust and a few fresh cut carrots shoved in the side of her boot – are all pretty commonplace at YMCA Overnight Camp Raintree…but there is something very special about this 21-year-old young lady.

Hayley grew up in San Diego with five siblings and a single working mother. She never really considered herself as being poor and told us that she was “used to being on scholarship for things,” so when she came to her first Y Camp on a financial scholarship at age 7, she wasn’t surprised.
